DevII Project Proposal

Project Overview

Summary of the focus of the site
This project focuses on tracking real-time gym occupancy by letting users check in when they arrive and check out when they leave. Each check-in also records the type of workout split (push, pull, legs, or other), so students can get a rough idea of not only how busy the gym is, but what kinds of workouts are happening at certain times. Over time, the system builds up a history of peak hours and crowd patterns, helping students plan their visits more efficiently.

Notes on the audience/s for the project
The main audience is college students who use campus gyms and want to avoid overcrowded times. A secondary audience could be gym staff, who benefit from better insights into peak usage periods and can use the data for scheduling staff or maintenance. Eventually, multiple campus gyms could be supported to serve a wider student community.

Discussion of the underlying data for the site
The core data comes from user-created accounts and their recorded gym sessions. Each session stores a check-in time, check-out time, and the chosen workout type. By aggregating this data, the site can calculate current occupancy, show workout distribution (push/pull/legs/other), and generate historical analytics like average crowd levels by hour or day of the week. The dataset grows richer as more students participate, and it remains relevant because it is constantly updated with live user activity.
